ITIF Names SpinQ a Leading Chinese Quantum Computing Innovator
2024.09.14 · Press Release
Recently, the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF), a leading U.S. technology policy think tank, released a report titled “How Innovative Is China in Quantum?”
The report surveyed numerous Chinese quantum companies and identified approximately 14 private firms as “making significant contributions to quantum technology,” including nine startups and five major technology corporations.
Among them, SpinQ Technology —a Chinese company specializing in quantum computing innovation—was recognized for its contributions.

Report Link: How Innovative Is China in Quantum?
The report provides an in-depth analysis of China's global position, policy landscape, and industrial development in the three core areas of quantum technology—quantum communication, quantum computing, and quantum sensing—benchmarking them against those of the United States.
Within what the report describes as an "isolated quantum strategy," China has achieved significant breakthroughs. Among the three major domains, China leads the world in quantum communication, while the United States maintains an edge in quantum computing. The two countries are roughly on par in quantum sensing.
Overall, China's progress in quantum technology has reached a level that rivals that of the United States. In certain areas, China has even surpassed the U.S. in terms of scale and scope, signaling a challenge to American dominance in the field of quantum technology.

SpinQ Successfully Delivers Superconducting Quantum Chips Overseas: Closing the Gap with the U.S.
The report acknowledges that while the United States remains significantly ahead in developing quantum computing hardware, China is rapidly closing the gap through recent advancements. It specifically highlights SpinQ Technology, which, in November 2023, became the first Chinese company to successfully deliver superconducting quantum chips to overseas partners.

From Lab to Market: China Focuses on Commercializing Quantum Technology
The report highlights that China is concentrating on domestic startups in the commercialization of existing quantum technologies. By supplementing the lack of private investment with public funding, China has effectively transformed this potential weakness into a strategic advantage.
According to the report, China's quantum strategy prioritizes the transformation of scientific and technological innovation into tangible products.
Unlike the United States, which emphasizes quantum knowledge creation, China has remained committed to seamlessly translating quantum innovation from the laboratory into real-world applications, streamlining the path from quantum research to quantum commercialization.
As a pioneering Chinese company dedicated to the industrialization of quantum computing, SpinQ Technology has pursued a “dual-engine” strategy since its inception—combining cutting-edge R&D with practical commercial implementation.
SpinQ has not only successfully exported superconducting quantum chips abroad but also brought its self-developed nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) quantum computers from the lab to the global market, reaching over 30 countries and regions. This demonstrates China's growing influence in quantum technology on the international stage.
As a key player in the global quantum ecosystem, SpinQ Technology will continue increasing investment in R&D, accelerating the transition of quantum technology from research to practical use. In doing so, it aims to deliver Chinese quantum innovation to the world and further enhance China's position in the global quantum computing landscape.
